Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea (LUPNG) is a privately owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea. The Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea (LUPNG) was established by an Act of Parliament (LUPNG Act, 2022) and certified as a Higher Education Institution in March 2022 in compliance with the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2014 (amended 2020).
LUPNG Head Office is based in Lae at the ELCPNG Headquarter, Ampo with its Schools and Campuses located in Lae, Madang and Banz. The Lutheran University came into existence by merger of four existing church education institutions that have been operating for over 50 – 60 years, each with well-renown reputations for providing quality education to Papua New Guineans before Independence. The four institutions are Balob Teachers College (BTC) and Martin Luther Seminary (MLS) in Lae. Lutheran School of Nursing (LSON) in Madang and Lutheran Church College Banz (LCCB) in Jiwaka Province. These institutions will continue to build on their individual successes and reputation as they integrate under one LUPNG management and governance structure.
