Lutheran University Of Papua New Guinea

The Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea (LUPNG) is a newly established private institution owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea. It was founded through an Act of Parliament (LUPNG Act, 2022) and was officially certified as a Higher Education Institution in March 2022, in accordance with the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2014 (amended 2020).

The Head Office is in Lae, currently located at Ampo, while it has satellite campuses in Lae, Madang, and Banz. The Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea (LUPNG) was established through the merger of four long-standing church-run educational institutions, each with a legacy of over 50 to 60 years and a strong reputation for delivering quality education to Papua New Guineans even before Independence.

The four institutions are Balob Teachers College (BTC) and Martin Luther Seminary (MLS) in Lae, the Lutheran School of Nursing (LSON) in Madang, and the Lutheran Church College Banz (LCCB) in Jiwaka Province. As part of LUPNG, these institutions will continue to build on their individual strengths while operating under a unified management and governance structure.
