Dear family members, people of Nawaeb and Morobe,
The tragic news of the passing of the late Governor of Morobe and National MP, Hon. Luther Akisawa Wenge, is distressing at this time of our country’s golden anniversary. On behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea, I convey our deep sorrow and our heartfelt condolences to the family and the people of Nawaeb and Morobe province.
We share with you the loss and pain of a great leader who dedicated his time and life for the people of Morobe and PNG as a civil servant and political leader for many years. His long record of service and leadership is a testament of his commitment and dedication to the country. He was very vocal on many burning issues of the country and advocated for legislative and structure reform at the provincial and national level.
Born and raised in a Lutheran family he had strong connection to the Church. He had deep passion, charisma and love for the church and embraced the title “Songang” to his final moment. The Lutheran community will remember his favorite phrase: “Born as a Lutheran, Live as a Lutheran and die as a Luther”.
We are grateful to the family, the people of Nawaeb and Morobe for the gift of this great leader to the province and the nation. We thank God for the gift of his life, which he dedicated to the people of this country. The Lutheran Community shares the sorrow and sympathy with the family and the people of Morobe. The God of consolation comfort you and strengthen you in this difficult moment of loss and grief.
God the source of life, who has given has taken. We give Him glory in all circumstances for he knows what is good for us, even when life is confronted with adversity. Christ said, “my grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak” (12 Cor. 12:9) May this unfailing grace of God grant you peace and strength.
A great Son of Morobe! Rest in peace!
