Health Services

Health Services

Lutheran Health Service (LHS) is a division under the Social Service Department of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea. The Health Ministry provides the holistic mission of the church as we believe God direct the Church to help human needs in all aspects of life. (Ephesians 4:12-13). Thus we follow Jesus who healed the sick.

Administration

The head office located in Lae Top town which over sees all operations throughout the facilities and then we have the three main regions that sub-manage its facilities and workers.

  • Morobe Region
  • Mase Region
  • Highlands Region

Health Center/Aid-post

Most of the facilities are scattered around in the rural parts of the country.

  • 29 Health Centers
  • 62 Aid Post
  • 2 Mobile Clinics

Hospitals

Currently there are 2 rural hospitals and a recently upgraded provincial hospital.

  • Braun Provincial Hospital (Butaweng, Finchafen)
  • Yagaum Rural Hospital (Madang)
  • Gaubin Rural Hospital (Karkar Island)

CHW Schools

Running under LHS are the three schools;

To Facilitate a Process of Empowerment through Community Development in the rural areas of Papua New Guinea
 
Vision Statement: 
To see all families in rural communities enduring resilient livelihood by way of Creating a Healthy Society by Sharing the faith – Building the Society and Re- visioning and revitalizing the Values of the society.

– Empowerment of the people through the leading of the holy spirit to explore potential and
– The exploring and bestowing of the spiritual gifts necessary to carry-out the holistic mission of the family, Community and the nation.

Key Objective and Goals:

To improve holistic development with focus on people as central for development and growth with emphasis on Spiritual, Social, Mental and Emotional faculties of the greater number of people by way of connecting appropriate people and relevant organizations.

Youngpla Didiman

Managing value chain of economically viable and climate smart technology adoption and up-scaling to enable resilient food supplies to household. Training and visit farmers, Connecting and facilitating the linkages between the commodity boards extension services to raise the standard of coffee, cocoa production as well as Fresh Produce development and Marketing. Liaise and organize market for farmers.

Small Infrastructure

Training and construction of appropriate irrigation options and clean water for drinking, health and hygiene and connecting people by constructing footbridges and small airstrips. To enable effective and efficient movement of people to access resources to sustain livelihood.

Putim na Kisim

Disaster Risk Mitigation and Rehabilitation– Do Community Disaster Risk Assessment for Vulnerable Communities and Rehabilitation program to enable resilient livelihood.

Formal Education

Formal Division is an education system operating under Lutheran Agency banner. The government and church work together in caring and sharing the program. Funding and most infrastructure of the institutions are met by the Government. Little assistance and most decisions are made by both church and government.
 

Informal Education

Informal of the Education Dept deals with only 3 programs as follows:
1.  Adult Literacy Training
2.  Early Childhood Learning
3. Life Skills Training Schools
